Puppy one to one training

Buying a new puppy can be the most exciting (and nerve wracking!) time for many owners. Most families want to welcome a happy and sociable pet into their new family but are often unsure how to get from the new baby puppy to the well balanced, fun adult dog.

There is lots of help and advice out there freely given by all sorts of people – but what is the right advice? Lots of words like dominance and breed type are used and there are many methods of training, some of which are better than others but how do you know which way is the right way for your puppy?

Maybe it’s your first puppy or you haven’t had a puppy for many years – most people just want to get it right. Apart from the initial cost of your puppy, over the years your puppy will dictate the car that you drive, the clothes that you wear, your holidays, even the house that you buy! We invest a huge amount of time, money and effort into our family dog – make sure you get the right advice from day one so that you can rear and train a safe, happy, confident dog that will be a pleasure to own and your pride and joy for many years to come.

Puppy consultation

Once you have got your new puppy home, we can advise you on the best way to rear and train your puppy.

We start with a one to one puppy consultation where we find out any training/behaviour problems and give advice and training methods. We discuss how to manage the early stages of training and look at some of the pitfalls to be avoided. All this is followed up by a written report and training plan detailing all that we have discussed and how to take the training forward with an idea of time scale.

This can then be followed up with one to one training, either in your own home or in our 1½ acre secure training paddock. We offer individual one to one training or a 6 week puppy training package.

We can help with initial training and socialisation including play biting and jumping up, house training, crate training, how to play with your puppy and avoiding some of the early pitfalls. Some of the training we can cover (depending on time and bookings are):

  • House training
  • Socialisation/habituation
  • Playing with your puppy
  • Crate/ puppy pen training (if this is something you choose to do)
  • Leaving your puppy (avoiding separation anxiety)
  • Collar training
  • Reflex to name
  • Play biting/ chasing/ mouthing
  • Jumping up
  • Puppy recall training
  • Emergency recall
  • Eye contact – which will lead to…
  • Loose lead walking (no distractions)
  • Sit/down/stand training without distractions
  • Settle! In a safe place, when handling puppy, grooming etc
  • Any other training/behaviour issues you may have

All training is fun and force free and will allow your puppy to begin to think in the right way and will enhance your relationship with your puppy and begin to build that bond with your puppy for the rest of their lives.

As much as possible we recommend training is shared between ALL members of the family, including children, so everyone is treating the puppy in the same way and using the same techniques, cues etc.
